First things first, where to get it, and how to use it? There are several examples online, you just need to search and print a few copies. Or, if you like to draw, you can check some of those examples and then make your own moondala.

It’s round, symbolizing the cycles, and it needs to have small squares where you can register what you have decided it’s important for you to check every day.

To start using it, if you menstruate, start on the first day of your period, the last day will be the one before your next period. If you don’t menstruate, you can start on the new moon, and follow the cycles of the moon.

There are a few things that you should always write down: the phase of the moon, your period days, and the date of start. You can also add the day in your cycle so that you can always easily check how many days had your cycle.

Themes to take notes

The Moondala is totally adaptable to your needs and wishes. That means there is no closed list for you to follow but a few suggestions.

Before checking the suggestions though, you might want to think to make some questions to yourself, such as:

“Does my mood change a lot during the cycle? What do I need to start paying attention to?”

“Which activities make me feel good about myself?”

“What do I want to boost my life in terms of my habits?”

Among many other possibilities, that will give you answers about the things you want to focus about. If you feel a bit lost in this process, check out some of the most common aspects other women have decided to pay attention to.

  • Cervical mucus;
  • Basal temperature;
  • Energy level;

Ways to fill your Moondala

You can write down how you are feeling, but you can also make colors and/or symbols chart. The colors can represent intensity, for example, for your menstrual flow or sexual desire, you can use red and pink. If it’s stronger it corresponds to a stronger flow of desire, and softer, to a weaker flow of desire.

The symbols you can use to record activities such as meditation, dancing, working out, among others. It can also be applied to things you ate or drank (for example, if you want to avoid it, or if you need to include it in your diet but it’s hard for you); emotions, actions (for example sexual relations, fights, being in nature, etc.).

With time and a lot of love towards your own process, you will understand how to use these tools. After at least three months, you can start to compare your Moondalas and understand how your cycles work, and how you can make the most of your days if you respect your own rhythms.
