Two of the most prominent belief systems in the world are Buddhism and Hinduism. There are many similarities between them, but also interesting and distinct differences.
The word Buddhism is used to reflect the teachings of Buddha, a spiritual teacher who was believed to be raised in a Hindu home. In fact, Buddhism can be considered a new branch of Hinduism – one without the more orthodox ways of Hinduism.
By examining the Hindu religion and exposing the injustices within it, Buddhism offered a different perspective on a somewhat similar set of beliefs. Buddhists do not believe in Gods, and there are also no “rituals” associated with practicing Buddhism.
Both Hinduism and Buddhism originate in India, where they have since survived side by side. They share a belief of reincarnation, where your soul encounters a cycle of multiple lifetimes, broken only once a spiritual peak is reached.
Other similarities between the two religions include: practicing non-attachment, performing meditation, and believing that all souls eventually attain enlightenment.
